Academics & the Arts

At Holy Family Parish School we recognize that when looking at the formation of the whole child it is important to have a balance of academics and the arts. This helps to form a growth mindset, improve cognition and self-confidence, and increase communication skills. In addition to classes, students have many opportunities delve further into academic or art topics that interest them. From reading competitions to choir and drama, at HFK there is something for everyone!

AWESOME READING CHALLENGE

The Global Reading Challenge is an opportunity for 4th and 5th graders to team up in groups of six to read and study the same selected books and then face off in a school competition. The team that correctly answers the most questions wins the in-school challenge and goes on to compete against other schools. This is an exciting way to delve deep into books and have fun too.

HFK Drama

The Drama Program at HFK just celebrated 26 years of performances! The program is an after school, extracurricular activity for middle school students that includes auditions, set design and creation, and instruction in vocal technique, staging, and acting. Students are given leadership opportunities in many areas of the process to encourage independence and provide opportunities for ownership. The goal of this program is to train students in the techniques required to produce quality theatre while cultivating a community of artists and friends.

HONOR CHOIR

The Honor Choir at HFK is an extracurricular choir for middle school students. The primary responsibility of the choir is to lead the school and parish in song during the weekly school Mass. The choir also performs at the Advent program and ministers to the community during field trips. Sacred music is studied, ranging from chant to contemporary Christian hymns.

SPEECH TEAM

The Holy Family School speech team comprises middle school students and meets regularly after school throughout the fall. Our coaches are assisted by recent HFK graduates who enjoy mentoring the current participants. The team competes in the Middle School Invitational Speech Tournament at Bishop Blanchet High School in December. Students choose which tournament events they participate in and whether they participate as duos or individuals.
