Besides the obvious benefit of physical fitness, sport teams help children develop communication and problem solving skills that benefit them on the field and off. In addition, working as a team to reach a common goal, the tight bonds they form with their teammates provide them with an additional caring support system. Our HFK CYO sports teams provide opportunities for school and parish youth to participate together in athletic activities under conditions that are safe, enjoyable, and promote the Christian attitudes of fair play and cooperation. All eligible youth are given the opportunity to participate without try-outs or “cuts”.
Before & After School Care / Kids Club
Holy Family provides before and after school care for interested students. The goal for our Before and After School Program, called Kids’ Club, is for your child to feel welcome, safe and nurtured. Our program provides a cheerful, safe and convenient environment for students, as well as an opportunity for them to be with other children and keep the fun of the school day going!
Academics & The Arts Extras
At Holy Family Parish School we recognize that when looking at the formation of the whole child it is important to have a balance of academics and the arts. This helps to form a growth mindset, improve cognition and self-confidence, and increase communication skills. In addition to classes, students have many opportunities delve further into academic or art topics that interest them. From geography and math competitions to choir and drama, at HFK there is something for everyone!
Leadership & Spiritual Life
Holy Family offers many ways for students to become involved in leadership roles and grow in their faith throughout their years at HFK. Participation in these various groups and activities help to form the whole child, boosting self-confidence, advancing organizational skills, increasing self-expression, and developing loving and supportive relationships.
Clubs & Camps
Besides increasing knowledge in a given area and being a lot of fun, studies show that after school clubs help in forming sociable and confident children. Holy Family offers a wide range of after school clubs that vary from trimester to trimester and include a wide range of age groups. In addition, several summer camps are offered the two weeks in June immediately following dismissal for summer break.
Fun Run & Festival
Our annual HFK Fun Run is an opportunity for students and staff to lace up their sneakers and run for HFK. The run takes place on our campus and involves fun obstacles along the way such as hay bales to jump, tires to climb over, and tunnels to crawl through. School spirit is high with each class Fun Run T-shirt a unique color and staff wearing tye-dye T-shirts, a combination of all the class colors.
Washington DC Trip
On this once-in-a-lifetime adventure, students will explore our nation’s most important historical sites and experience incomparable learning moments. This will be a trip that your child will be talking about for years to come!
Some of the trip highlights our students love are:
- Standing where Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial
- Discovering the true meaning of sacrifice at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with students participating in the wreath laying ceremony
- Walking in the footsteps of our great leaders on Capitol Hill
- Exploring numerous Smithsonian Museums, like the National Museum of Natural History and the National Air and Space Museum
Uniforms & Spirit Gear
Uniforms are one of our parents’ favorite aspects of Catholic school life! Uniforms are a tradition of Catholic schools and contribute to the school’s sense of pride and distinction. A uniform look gives an outward sign of being a community. Uniforms lessen peer pressure, enhance self-esteem, and promote a focus on the development of the “inside” of the student rather than the externals. All K-8 students are required to wear uniforms. In grade 6, our students are ready for a change, so their student uniform shifts to a middle school specific uniform for grades 6-8.
Lunch is an important part of each child’s day. Our kindergarten students eat in the cafeteria first followed by our students in grades 5-8. Students in grades 1-4 go out for their midday recess first, then come in for lunch while grades 5-8 go out to play. At HFK students may bring their lunch from home or order a “hot lunch” through our lunch provider, Amazing Lunches.
