Breaking News…Medical Mystery at HFK!

The seventh grades are excited to have started their new unit in science – a medical mystery. This week the students were introduced to a 13-year-old patient with a digestive issues but also has a myriad of other symptoms. This is a true story with real endoscopic pictures and other medical records. The students hypothesized about what sort of evidence they will need to gather in order to begin the diagnosis. The students then drew an initial model of how they think the digestive system works. As we further progress through our labs and activities, the students will add, delete and modify their original model demonstrating their learning. Currently, we are learning how a healthy person’s digestive systems works then analyzing how certain foods gets absorbed through the system. Through simulations, the students are gathering data evidence and analyzing the results. Stay tuned- the mystery is unfolding!
