Choosing "Good Fit" Books

We teach children about choosing good-fit books by comparing book selection to shoe selection. Our opening lesson on finding good-fit books is an anchor lesson that we refer to all year long. Does each shoe interest me? Does it have a purpose? Does it fit me? We can ask ourselves the same questions when making book selections.

The children keep our I Pick Steps in mind while choosing books to read.

Oh dear ... is this a good-fit for Mrs. Leitch?

Maybe we should give Mr. Leitch's softball shoes back....

Now we're talking ... aqua socks for swimming and walking on the beach! Just her size, too ...

This will be a good-fit shoe if we get snow this winter.

Would our second grade friends wear the same shoes? Sometimes we may choose different books, also.

Finally, out came the book bag to decide on good-fit books for Mrs. Leitch!!
